Minecraft Xbox One isn’t some quickfire port with cosmetic alterations, Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer has told OXM – the game’s mostly undivulged enhancements add up to something very distinct from Xbox 360 version, putting cross-platform features like save transfers in jeopardy. “No, it’s a new product on Xbox One,” Spencer rebutted, when we asked whether you could roll over save files from the existing console version. “We’re actually updating it in pretty significant ways for the new platform. Bigger worlds, which don’t translate between the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One.”
Naturally, this is somewhat at odds with a 4J Studios claim that the developer is in talks with Microsoft and Mojang to allow save transfers. Which we hope they do. I’ve got around three million in-game miles of Minecraft real estate, waiting to flip over onto the new Xbox.
“We’re seeing tremendous usage of Minecraft on the system, so we wanted to make sure it was one of the things that were there for people to go and create on day one,” Spencer continued.
“Obviously this is Mojang’s game, and I’ve had good discussions with Notch about where he sees this franchise going, trying to create a more connected Minecraft world where your creations can go with you from device to device, but I haven’t talked to them about where they are on that path.”
